About Fauldmore Creations – Artwork, Jewellery & Photo Art by Bute Artist Mags MacLaren
Fauldmore Creations is the creative studio of Mags MacLaren, a Bute-based artist and maker specialising in photo art, mixed media artwork, and handmade jewellery. Working from her base in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, Mags creates distinctive collections inspired by the island’s landscape, light, and ever-changing coastal environment.
Mags is a self-taught Scottish artist who has been exploring creativity since childhood. Over the years she has worked with a wide range of crafts, developing a unique artistic style that blends photography, texture, colour, and natural inspiration. Her creative practice became a powerful outlet alongside a demanding career, offering a way to recharge and support her wellbeing. In recent years she has been building towards a full-time career as an artist and maker.
Photography has been central to her work for decades. Since her first visit to Bute in 1982, Mags has been captivated by the island’sskies, water, dramatic weather, and shifting light. Many of her art collections begin with an original photo art print, which then inspires complementary pieces in jewellery or mixed media.
Around 2010, Mags began making handcrafted jewellery, followed by a growing interest in mixed media art. This developed naturally from her earlier cardmaking, where she gathered a rich collection of paints, papers, and materials. Her artistic evolution accelerated in 2017 when she first established her base in Rothesay, Isle of Bute.
Today, Fauldmore Creations brings together Mags’s love of photography, craft, and creative expression. Each artwork and piece of jewellery reflects the colours, textures, and atmosphere that make Bute such an inspiring place to live and create.
